Étourdissant Diamond

The leading gem in the Étourdissant Cartier line, unveiled in 2015, this D IF type IIa diamond weighing 34.96 carats is the heart of a radiant necklace.

The Étourdissant—or “stunning”—diamond is exceptional in many ways. First the intensity of its sparkling D-grade color, then its clarity, IF, yet also its purity and limpidity, making it a type IIa diamond, all place it among the rarest in the world. It is also exceptional for its impressive size and weight of 34.96 carats, and finally for its cut, known as “old mine.” Indeed, the stonecutter decided to retain this traditional shape during a recent cut, favoring transparency over the straightforward symmetry of the stone, thus preserving its limpidity and the quality of its color. The Étourdissant diamond is therefore all the more original and precious for differing from the standard cushion shape.

Today it sits at the heart of a platinum necklace with geometric pavé-set motifs inviting endless interpretations—radiant sun, shimmering river, glittering waterfall, and so on. This creative design is an ode to diamonds, to their symbolism and richly evocative powers.

The transformable necklace can be worn in two ways: in its initial, lavish design, or in a pure, streamlined version relieved of its pavé-set motifs, thereby bringing the fabulous diamond to the fore.
