This magnificent 29.06-carat sapphire is cornflower blue (bleu-bleuet), and comes from the esteemed, highly coveted mines of Kashmir. It was exhibited in 2014 as part of the Cartier Royal High Jewelry collection.
Cartier displayed an extraordinary cushion-shaped sapphire at the 2014 Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris.
It is extraordinary first of all for its origins: it comes from no-longer-exploited mines in the Himalayan region of Kishtwar in Kashmir.
And it is extraordinary for it highly desirable color, which experts call “cornflower blue.” Typically of Kashmir sapphires, its velvety, rich, intense hue is luminous without being too pale, just as it is strong without being too dark.
Finally, it is also extraordinary for its weight: an impressive 29.06 carats, extremely rare for a sapphire with this provenance.
Cartier has set this magnificent sapphire in a ring with a refined structure featuring two triangular-shaped diamonds weighing 2.43 and 2.17 carats, respectively, flanked by caliber- and brilliant-cut diamonds. The bejeweled setting, with its clean lines, magnifies the sapphire’s matchless color.
