Amazonie Emerald

A rectangular, old-mine stone weighing 17.38 carats, the Amazonie emerald comes from famous mines in Colombia. Cartier set it on a ring in 2015.

Found in the distant past in one of the legendary Colombian mines in the Andes mountains, the 17.38-carat Amazonie emerald is of the finest possible quality. The purity of its crystal is matched by the strength of its color: an intense, natural green undiminished by shades of yellow or blue. It evokes all the lushness of Amazonia.

On its crown are a few inclusions—called jardins (French for “gardens”) or givres (frosts) by gem experts when found in emeralds—that impart a certain vivacity and personality to the stone.

The well-proportioned balance of its cut is also remarkable, creating harmony between the sharp-angled steps and the softly rounded corners.

Indeed, it was the shape of the emerald that guided the design of the ring in 2015. The geometric rigor of its strong lines, like the baguette-cut diamonds on the sides, perfectly wed the emerald.
