An emblematic animal in Cartier’s bestiary, the crocodile is at home in exceptional jewelry sets. Back in 1975, the Maison had created a unique necklace for the extravagant Mexican actress María Félix, which featured two yellow-gold reptiles, one with scales of emerald and the other, of diamond. The animals could also be separated and worn as brooches.

Almost four decades later and after several creations featuring the reptile, Cartier crafted another strikingly life-like crocodile necklace in 2014. Showing off its graceful silhouette, powerful limbs, piercing emerald gaze, boldly patterned diamond and obsidian skin, the predatory wild animal grips between its nose and tail a splendid 9.04-carat emerald from Colombia.
