The Deep-Red ruby (Rubis Pourpre) is an old Burmese “pigeon’s blood” stone weighing 10.17 carats, found in the legendary Mogok Valley. It combines some of the most sought-after qualities in gemological circles. Cartier set it on a ring in 2014.

Originating from the depths of the famous Mogok Valley, at a time when Burma was not yet called Myanmar, the Deep-Red ruby stands out above all with its 10.17 carats weight. Its cushion shape has been subtly facetted on the surface to capture the light, setting its color afire. It is a pure, deep red without the least trace of purple. This vivid red with its blazing reflections is known as “pigeon’s blood.”

Pigeon’s-blood rubies are emblematic of the Mogok mines and have always been coveted for their deep, arterial color. Of extraordinary rarity, especially when weighing over ten carats, they are almost impossible to find today, which means that every time one appears on the gemstone market it becomes an event.

To exalt this peerless stone, Cartier designed a ring with clean lines, set with four calibré-cut diamonds. Two trapezoid diamonds were then added to intensify the Deep-red ruby’s incandescent sparkle.
